When It’s Not My Turn

Waiting can feel very difficult for young children.

When a child wants a turn with a toy, a game, or attention, their body can react quickly. The feeling of wanting something right now can make waiting feel frustrating and uncomfortable.

In this gentle story, Casper finds it hard when it isn’t his turn. His body feels impatient and unsettled, and he struggles to wait. With calm guidance from Bentley, he begins to understand that waiting doesn’t mean missing out,  it simply means someone else is having their turn first.

When It’s Not My Turn helps children begin to understand waiting and turn-taking in a supportive, reassuring way.

This story supports:

• Learning to wait for a turn
• Managing frustration
• Developing impulse control
• Building early emotional regulation

Designed for children aged 2–7, this book is especially supportive for children with ADHD or strong emotional responses, while remaining helpful for all young children learning how to share space, games, and attention with others.

This isn’t about forcing children to “be patient.”
It’s about helping them understand what is happening inside their body, so they can grow the skill of waiting over time.

Because learning to wait is not instant.

It’s something children build, one small turn at a time.
